110. From Dungeons to Cemeteries: Real-Life Ghost Stories on Mind Power Meets Mystic
In this special Halloween episode of Mind Power Meets Mystic, co-hosts Cinthia Varkevisser and Michelle Walters dive into ghost stories inspired by travel experiences, tales of haunted places, and encounters with energies from the past. With Halloween approaching, they focus on the mysterious, exploring unseen realms and sharing memorable and personal experiences with the supernatural.
Episode Highlights:
- Michelle’s Ghostly Experience in Puerto Rico:
- Michelle recalls an eerie visit to a historical dungeon in Puerto Rico, where she felt an overwhelming sense of sadness and lingering energy from the past. Reflecting on the weight of history and the energy left behind by those who had suffered there, she discusses the importance of respecting the invisible energies that can linger in historically charged places.
- Aaron’s Ghostly Companion:
- Cinthia shares the fascinating story of Aaron, a friend who picked up an unexpected guest during a visit to a castle dungeon in the UK. After returning home, Aaron felt different and sought Cinthia’s insight. She found an entity—similar to Ghostbusters’ Slimer—that had “hitched a ride” with Aaron back from the castle. Hear how Aaron resolved this ghostly attachment and returned to feeling like himself.
- Clearing Neglected Cemetery Boundaries:
- One of Cinthia’s clients felt compelled to clear a neglected part of a Southern California cemetery. Cinthia and her client joined forces to perform a compassionate clearing for souls who may have been buried outside the official cemetery boundary, either forgotten over time or unable to afford a traditional burial plot. Listen in as Cinthia recounts this profound and powerful ritual, where spirits lined up as if at a train station, guided toward release and healing.
- Healing Through Spirit Connection:
- The episode ends with Cinthia’s moving experience of witnessing her client help a spirit child cross over. This tender moment becomes a moment of healing, as her client’s own sense of motherhood and compassion deepens through the connection.
Takeaways from This Episode:
- Energy and spirits can linger in places with strong histories, and respecting those energies can deepen one’s experience when visiting these sites.
- Personal boundaries are key in places where energetic attachments are possible, especially in places historically associated with suffering or paranormal activity.
- Rituals and compassionate clearings can be healing experiences for both spirits and those performing the ritual.

Our weekly show is here to expand your mind to what's possible, to uplift your spirits, to move forward with confidence and joy, and to create a space for your collaboration with the invisible. Welcome to Mind Power Meets Mystic.
Welcome to this special week of Mind Power Meets Mystic. It's me, Michelle Walters, and my podcast co-host, Cinthia Varkevisser. We have Halloween coming up this week in the United States, and as a special treat, because it's Halloween, we thought we would focus today’s episode on travel and ghosts.
I love it, so I’m so sorry. Shall we start over again?
No, I think we should just keep right on going. Many, many years ago, when I was first one of Cinthia's students, I went to see Cinthia speak at a ghost conference in a town near where we both live, called Benicia. Cinthia spoke about ghosts, and other people spoke about ghosts too. I'm not really sure what I think about ghosts, but I do think there’s something there—or, you know, people wouldn’t talk about it all over the world for centuries. There's some kind of energetic thing going on.
When we were preparing for our podcast today, we realized we both have interesting ghost stories, so we thought we’d start with a story from a friend of ours who originally told this story to Cinthia. I’ll turn it over to Cinthia to share our friend’s story.
Thank you. Well, here’s the thing—before I tell the story, you know me, I gotta throw a curveball and say the ghost convention was in the small town of Benicia. And if you know anything about that place, it’s a little ghost town in itself. On ghost tours there, you’ll find it’s mainly a history tour with some ghost stories. On certain evenings, they’ll give you divining rods and other tools to help you feel what it’s like to be in contact with a ghost. It’s a really cool way to mix things up. If you’re ever in the Bay Area, I highly recommend going to Benicia, California.
Sorry about that, Michelle.
No, I think it’s a good aside promo for Benicia. Can’t be bad.
Right, yeah! And it’s a cute little psychic town. We could talk about that another time. So, we have a friend in common, Aaron, who’s actually been on the show before, right? He went traveling with a friend to the UK, exploring and getting to know this person, and went into a castle. He goes down to the dungeon, feels it’s a bit different, enjoys the rest of his vacation, and flies home. Upon his return, he feels different—not headaches, but just… off.
This is where I come in. I don’t usually deal with ghosts or extractions, but when Aaron asked for a reading, he wondered, “Did something attach to me?” And I found this little creature that looked like a human but was attached to him piggyback style. It looked like Slimer from Ghostbusters! This little blobby guy was hanging onto Aaron like a hoodie, which explained why he felt off. I had a talk with Slimer, who said he wanted to see what life was like outside the castle dungeon where he never got to travel.
Since I’m not an expert in extractions, I referred Aaron to two people who could help. Afterward, Slimer went back to the castle, and Aaron felt more like himself—no extra weight or weird feeling. It was a fun ghost attachment story that I thought would be cool to share.
Well, I like it. Aaron mentioned the story to me, too, though not in as much detail. It’s a good reminder that when you go to places with potential ghostly energy, it’s helpful to envision your personal bubble to ward off any unwanted attachments.
Right. And while this ghost wasn’t draining Aaron’s energy, it was extra weight. Aaron was more of a “no way” kind of guy about keeping it.
Well, my travel and ghost story also starts in a dungeon. I was at a fort in Puerto Rico, exploring a dungeon with a history of hundreds of people who died there. While I didn’t sense any particular ghost, I felt a weight of sadness, heaviness, and despair. It’s valuable to realize that these energies can linger, even for people who aren’t deeply intuitive.
I like that part of your story too—the idea that these places can change us, and we can change them. You even considered staying to absorb some of that energy and bring healing.
Yeah, and there’s a responsibility in that process. We want to remind all of our listeners that you are here with me, Michelle Walters, and my podcast partner, Cinthia Varkevisser, on Mind Power Meets Mystic.
Cinthia, I think you have one more story to share today.
I do, and this one is one of my favorites, because it is just so different. So, I was working with someone at the time who was in Southern California, and she gave me a call out of the blue and said, "I feel compelled to clear a piece of cemetery. What I feel is that the cemetery boundaries now are not the boundaries that they were before the roads went up, and that the bodies that had been laid to rest outside, you know, outside the gate lines, have not been respected." She also went on to say, "It feels like there are also some people who could not afford cemeteries, but they wanted their families to be laid to rest someplace sacred, so they did the best they could."
So now, you're talking about two different kinds of boundaries, right? One that was taken up by the roads, and then beyond that, boundaries taken up by people who couldn't afford to have their loved ones in an official plot at that time. So I flew on down, and we did a clearing of a piece of the cemetery. The funny part about this is that if you were to listen to me talk about cemeteries or clearings, space clearings, it's like going around four times, and each time, you're doing something very specific, and then you finish up with a very healing thing. But this was not my clearing. I was here to hold space so that the person I was working with could do the thing that she felt compelled to do.
who had passed were from the:It was really interesting because we didn’t know what happened to the neglected pieces. Did the energy just get so dense? It was a different thing. And let’s be clear, this is a ghost story that happened in the middle of the day. We didn’t go and break into the cemeteries or do any Scooby-Doo stuff, right? We didn’t go looking for Mr. Withers or Mr. Winters. We went during the day and made sure to be respectful, and you could tell that there were people nearby, paying their respects. But this particular place was empty, so we did our thing, and then I just got to witness.
What my client did was amazing. We made a circle, and then we made an energy trail. So, we walked a trail from the people who were waiting, and it led to a place where she could sit and be like a gatekeeper. We made a full circle, and then she sat down. And what I witnessed was like people lining up at a train station—there were people of all sizes, and I want you to know there were children there as well. She held out her arms, like someone directing traffic, and either swiped her hand to the left, indicating, “You're probably not ready. Let’s have you go back and wait for the next time around,” or guided them to go beyond her to the other side, back to her back, where we created a portal for them to leave. It was really sweet to watch these energies and entities go by, and there were many. I got to witness something no one else had done in my experience, and I got to watch her grow up, in a certain way, as she was doing these things.
The most powerful thing was that I could feel the line thinning, and she says, “I am done.” I said, “I think there’s one more.” I didn’t say there’s no more, I just said, “I think you should wait one more moment.” And there was, and I watched her maternal instincts get bigger. There was something—I won’t say it was a smile on her face, but there was something. It took a moment, and then she said, “You’re right, I’m done.”
We talked about it. What had happened was that it was a baby, and she actually held the baby and talked to it about its parents and that they were loved, all these other things. The baby didn’t really know which way to go—it wasn’t a newborn, but definitely not walking yet. So she held the baby, had a conversation, and the baby decided it was ready to go. I believe it was a girl. Afterward, she came out of it, and I asked her, “What do you think?” I already sensed it was a baby. This person was also challenged about parenthood, specifically motherhood, and in that exchange, she helped a lot of people pass through. She was there for that baby, and that baby healed her as well. It was a really beautiful story—a really beautiful experience.
Thank you, Cinthia, and I think that brings us to the end of this episode of Mind Power Meets Mystic. You’ve been with me, Michelle Walters, and Cinthia Varkevisser. We hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Thanks for listening, and please share the podcast if you know someone who’d like it.
